I’ve been mixing things up lately.
I’ve been adding a sprinkle of turmeric to my morning water with lemon along with cayenne pepper and black pepper. I drink this combination, because it increases the absorption of curcumin in turmeric by a whopping 400%! It’s very orange and full of anti-inflammatory goodness.
And really it’s only a matter of time before I try to put whatever new health food I’m into on my face.
Because our skin is our body’s largest organ and what we put on it is absorbed into our bloodstream and we need to treat it right! …
From here my DIY all-natural antioxidant turmeric face mask was born.
Turmeric’s potent antioxidant properties benefit the skin when applied topically just as they benefit the body when taken internally.
Our skin is under constant free radical assault during the day from UV rays and air pollution. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals (which is why it’s so important to get a lot of them in your diet!).
Turmeric also has a number of other benefits for the skin: it has been used in traditional medicine to lighten skin and eliminate dark spots and is a great antibacterial agent.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened yogurt
- 1 tablespoon organic raw honey
- ½ teaspoon organic turmeric powder
Instructions
Mix all of the ingredients together into a consistent paste. Apply to clean, damp skin and allow to sit for 10-15 minutes. Then wash off and apply a moisturiser (like a nourishing face oil – try a magical golden oil). And of course, admire your naturally beautiful skin whilst thinking about how ACE you are for doing something good for yourself.
NOTE: Turmeric can temporarily stain the skin a yellowish hue. For this reason, I recommend applying the mask at night before bed. Your moisturiser will help to lift any remaining pigment.
